Welcome to our school's website. Hopefully it will give you a little insight into life in St. Paul's National School.
We are now accepting Intention to Enrol Forms for September 2025.

Unbelievable news from St. Paul's today! While out doing our Active Walkway featuring lots of Christmas jokes, we heard sirens in the distance that got louder and louder. It was An Garda Síochána escorting Santa Claus himself! What a shock it was to see them coming into our school to say hello to all the boys, girls and teachers! Santa and his two elves were so friendly and jolly, singing lots of Christmas songs and giving presents to everyone. There was huge excitement during the visit and some children even got to sing along with Santa!
It's Maths week and so we're looking at all things MATHS!
Children played lots of numeracy games and activities during Maths Week. The older children played games with younger children. This was a daily activity for Maths Week!
Estimate how many chocolates are in the jar! We had a week long competition where children made an estimate to try to name the correct amount of chocolates in the jar...winner took the lot! 206 was the exact amount in the jar.
Maths Quiz!
We had a whole school quiz on Friday with 4 rounds of questions.
We covered lots of topics including number, shape and space, measures, length, weight and capacity.

On Thursday 21st December, members of the Parents' Association Committee held their Christmas raffle. They had organised a huge selection of fantastic prizes and it was a great success! The raffle raised over €900 for the Parents' Association which will go towards funding activities for the children.
All parents are invited to the school this Thursday, 12th October at 8pm for an information evening. There will be a presentation from a representative of the National Parents Council (NPC) outlining the supports they offer to parents. They will also talk about the role of the parents' association in schools and best practices for running a parents' association.
The parents’ association is an essential part of the school community and research has proven that collaboration between schools and parents leads to better educational outcomes for children. We hope that many of you will consider getting involved with your parents’ association and we look forward to seeing you on the night.
A very warm welcome to our new pupils starting in St. Paul's and also to all pupils returning for a new school year! We hope you had a lovely summer and wish you well as we begin this new term.

On Tuesday we wished our 6th class pupils well as they leave St. Paul's and prepare to start secondary school in September. Parents and relatives of 6th class were invited to a service in the church where the pupils spoke about some of their favourite memories from their time in St. Paul's. They also sang a beautiful song accompanied by Mrs Redican on guitar. We then returned to the school for refreshments. Thank you to Mrs McNulty for her delicious graduation cakes! The pupils received colourful 'Class of 2023' hoodies which they are wearing with pride. Thank you also to Marie from the 5th class parents who was an enormous help on the day. We would like to wish all of 6th class the very best in their secondary school journey and beyond.

World Book Day 2023
On Thursday 2nd March we celebrated World Book Day. Many wonderful characters came to school from our favourite novels.
We had a parade to showcase the costumes and then later in the day, the children took part in some shared reading. There were so many types of books...something for everyone to enjoy!
Mrs Bourke retired from teaching after 37.5 years with over 6 years as principal here in St. Paul's N.S.
Just before the Christmas holidays, on her last day of teaching, the whole school gathered to celebrate with songs, poetry and many fond memories of Mrs Bourke.
On Sunday 15th January we gathered in St. Paul's Church with Mrs Bourke's friends, family and even a pupil from the very first class that she taught in Carbury National School.
Have a look at some of the photographs from both occasions.
Happy Retirement Mrs Bourke!
Graduation Day 2022
Graduation Day was very special as we said "Farewell" to 12 of our students. The morning kicked off with them selling their 'hot off the printer' school magazine, called "Behind the Walls of St. Paul's". We went up to the church where we were joined by parents, brothers, sisters an grandparents of 6th Class. Canon Andrew spoke of finishing the race well and keeping going! 6th Class entertained us with their choice of song, "High Hopes". They shared their Hopes and Dreams for the future. We were all very proud of them. Mrs. McNulty's celebration cake was enjoyed back at the school. The day culminated with a trip to Hot Rods where they enjoyed a meal and a 99! Definitely a day to remember!
Covid Volunteering Honoured!
Norah Doe, a pupil of St. Paul's National School was honoured in a ceremony in Dublin Castle. She won a national competition to design a commemorative badge to celebrate volunteering during the Covid-19 pandemic. At this even the contribution of all types of volunteering was acknowledged, as representatives from many charities and groups attended.
She was presented with her prize by the Minister of State and Charities, Joe O'Brien, on Thursday 19th May. She also won a grant of €2000 for her school for sports equipment. Included in the picture are her parents, Patricia and Ryan, her brother Tadhg, Mrs. Bourke, her teacher and Canon Dr. Andrew Ison, Chairperson of the Board of Management.

New Bishop Visits St. Paul's
We welcomed Bishop Ferran to the school as we joined Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh Diocese in November.
We watched an enjoyable game of "Conkers" between Bishop Ferran and Canon Andrew. Using this, he explained that in life we will experience many "knocks" but her encouraged us to trust God as our friend through life.

Picker Pals
The Junior Room are delighted to be taking part in the Picker Pals programme. We are very lucky as St. Paul’s N.S. is the first school in Sligo to take part in this programme.
‘Picker Pals is an environmental action programme for primary school children, their families, schools and communities. Picker Pals motivates children through immersion in a Picker Pals song and story world, equipping every classroom with a Picker Pack and inspiring children on accompanied local litter-picking adventures.’

Sports Day
We all were absolutely delighted to be able to have Sports Day this year! Despite it being a little bit different than usual, we still made the most of it and had a wonderful day. The children had lots of fun competing in the traditional sports day races – egg and spoon race, three legged race, sack race and running races. Unfortunately due to Covid, parents were unable to attend. However, we decided to give the children an extra special treat to make up for this – an ice cream van! There was lots of screaming and cheering as the children heard the ice cream van music and saw the van coming through the school gates. I don’t think the children stopped cheering and screaming until they were quietly eating their ice cream or slushies! Click the 'see more' button to see lots more pictures of our Sports Day.
Trip to Bartholomew Teeling's Monument in Carricknagat
The pupils in the Senior Room visited the monument to experience the site of the Battle of Carricknagat. Local Historian, Wendy Lyons, shared her knowledge with the pupils. They hope to write about this hero for a Story Writing Competition organised by Collooney Village Redevelopment Ltd.
